BRINGING SKIMAPS BACK TO THE WEB
SANFORD, Maine (10/22/03) -- SkiMaps.com, a well known ski web site which has been offline since last February, will be making a comeback thanks to the efforts of Snow Journal editor/publisher Christopher Bradford.
SkiMaps.com, which is owned by the University of Maryland, is a website that catalogs more than 1400 individual ski area trail maps from around the world. The collection has been a popular resource in the skier community in years past, with new maps being added to the collection every year.
Earlier this month, a licensing agreement was reached between Snow Journal and the University, allowing Mr. Bradford to publish SkiMaps.com along with SnowJournal.com. The agreement will keep SkiMaps.com online until at least 2005.
"This is a very exciting step in our online journey. Snow Journal has grown into a popular skiing related web site and the addition of SkiMaps.com gives us a lot more to offer the skiing community as a new family of web sites."
SkiMaps.com is expected to be back online this fall in time for the upcoming ski season, featuring a new web site which will contain the original ski maps collection plus other features, such as ski industry news, special deals, discussion forums, etc.
Snow Journal is a free online ski magazine featuring ski industry news and hosts one of the most active ski discussion forums on the web. Snow Journal's content is also syndicated to other skiing web sites and news sources. SnowJournal.com has been online since March 2000 and currently reaches an audience of approximately 200,000 individual page views per month.
The Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC) at the University of Maryland was established in 1986 to facilitate the transfer of life, information and physical science inventions developed at the university to business and industry. Over the past 17 years, OTC has recorded more than 1200 technologies and more than 700 license agreements.
