Bear Valley Telemark Skiing
FEBRUARY 2006
The 10th Annual Mountain Adventure Seminars Bear Valley Telemark Festival is back with its usual treats but with a plus. This much-anticipated event will be held on February 9-12 with over 300 telemark skiers expected to attend. Expect a weekend of technical clinics, demos, races, backcountry tours and more.
The following are the schedule and details of activities:
NEW DATE ADDED: "Ski with the Nordic D-Team" February 9 (Thursday)
This last minute addition is the kick-off event of the festival. In this event, instructors from the Professional Ski Instructors of America Nordic Demonstration Team will spend the day with intermediate to advanced telemark skiers to instruct and help them polish their skills. Early registration is advised since only six participants are allowed to each instructor. Interested parties can join for $75. Slots are limited with lift tickets sold separately
February 10 (Friday)
Workshops for telemark skiers of all levels will be conducted all day. Participants will be divided into groups of eight with one instructor for each group. Skiers will spend the morning with their instructor to develop and boost their skills. On midday, groups will switch instructors to give a wider variety of coaching. This class costs $85.
Morover, there will be the "Home Run" where intermediate skiers and above can join instructors at the mountain top for a guided ski run to Bear Valley Village and BaseCamp Lodge. Once in the lodge, binge in their "All-You-Can-Stuff" Burrito and Desert Bar for only $15! Also, be treated to the music of the Blue Shoes and a slideshow on the "History of Skiing."
February 11 (Saturday)
Enjoy and spend the day with telemark ski and boot demos, telemark ski clinics, Beacon Olympics, Costume Contest and the new "All-Terrain Tele-Race." Moreover, join the Saturday evening Banquet for only $40. Festivalgoers will be treated to dinner, beer and wine, a slideshow, a free drawing for great prizes, music from Albino and a night of hard partying. Space is limited so come early.
February 12 (Sunday)
Take your skills a notch higher with a day in the backcountry with ski guides to learn avalanche skills and linking turns. In addition, separate telemark workshops from the best telemark skiers will be conducted due to popular demand.
Interested parties have the following options:
Option 1:) Telemark Clinics (AM & PM)
Tune up your skills with this clinic! There will be 2-hour clinics in the morning and afternoon for beginning through advanced skiers. Starting times are 10 AM and 1 PM respectively. Choose one or both and lift tickets sold separately. ($45 / $85)
Option 2:) Backcountry Ski Tour & Turns
Backcountry skiers will sure enjoy this one. Groups will be divided into both skiing ability and fitness levels at the Bear Valley Cross Country Center at 8 AM. Shuttle buses will transport groups from Bear Valley Village to the Lake Alpine SnowPark at 8:30 AM. From here groups can quickly head to the scenic bowls and ridges bordering the Mokelumne Wilderness.
