Charlevoix Skiing Trail Goes Public

On February 5th, Le Massif National Alpine Skiing Training Center’s Charlevoix Trail, unique in eastern Canada because of its technical merits, was opened to everyone, for a period of 47 days.

This 2,200 meter- (1,250-foot) long run, usually closed to all except athletes in training or the racing elite, welcomes skiers for a total of 17 days in February, 20 days in March, and 10 days in April. Expert skiers seeking to experience thrills and chills in complete safety can discover this vast circuit where international races, namely downhill, super G, giant slalom and slalom are held.

Skiers can ski the Charlevoix with a pro. This specially designed training program created by the Ski & Surf School offers intermediate and advanced skiers the opportunity to tame this magnificent trail, at their own pace, accompanied by a Level Three or Four instructor. Two-hour lessons, to improve slide techniques on very steep pitches and hard surfaces, are available at all times. Reservations are recommended.

Built in 2001 with financing provided by the provincial and federal governments, the NASTCA, or National Alpine Skiing Training Center, was created to encourage the development of new athletes and promote slide sports in general. Designed by Bernhard Russi and approved by the International Ski Federation, this trail is the only of its kind in eastern North America where top caliber international athletes train safely due to careful slope maintenance and extensive protective netting.
