Hollywood Celebrities at Banff for Charity

The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel and Sunshine Village Ski Resort will again host Hollywood mega-stars next January at a three-day fundraising event supporting Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.’s Waterkeeper Alliance environmental organization.

Last January Academy Award winners Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta Jones, and Robin Williams joined Mr. Kennedy and Mary Richard Kennedy at the star-studded Celebrity Sports Invitational fund-raising event at “Canada’s Castle in the Rockies,” the Fairmont Banff Springs and on the slopes of Sunshine Village.

Organizers have announced that the Fairmont Banff Springs Celebrity Sports Invitational will be held January 6th - 8th, 2005, with more than 50 sports, film, and television stars expected to compete in a variety of events, including snowshoeing and alpine downhill racing at Sunshine Village.

“Skiers at Sunshine last year had almost unbelievable opportunities to get close to some of the world’s biggest stars while watching them compete intensely in fun-filled events,” said Ralph Scurfield, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sunshine Village.

The event has reportedly become a favorite with some of Hollywood’s top celebrities who gather to enjoy the luxury of Canada’s famed mountain retreat while also raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity.

Proceeds of the event benefit the Waterkeeper Alliance, an organization formed by Mr. Kennedy, which now numbers 23,000 individuals who commit 220,000 volunteer hours each year supporting Waterkeeper advocacy and on-water environmental protection efforts across North America.
