CNN Named Kicking Horse Top Powder Spot

Worldwide

CNN.com and Travel + Leisure Magazine recently named Kicking Horse Mountain Resort (British Columbia) the best place to go powder skiing in the world. In an on-line special report called “Adventures on the Edge,” CNN.com asked Travel + Leisure Magazine to name the ten best and most challenging snow destinations for 2004, and the magazine identified Kicking Horse Resort as the top spot for powder.

“If you’d rather pass on climbing out of a helicopter or a giant tractor, but still seek deep, luscious powder, Kicking Horse, Canada, may have the answer. You can be assured there will be nice fluffy conditions. It’s drier, and there won’t be icy or wet patches,” said Travel + Leisure’s associate editor Heather Mitchell. Visitors should look forward to “waist high drifts, big wide open bowls and un-groomed backcountry chutes.”

The ranking listed the best destinations for a number of winter activities, including snowmobiling, snow-kiting and airboarding, among the list of ten. Other destination activities in the ranking included Alaskan Heli-Skiing, Chilean Summer Skiing and super halfpipe snowboarding in Park City, Utah.

“It’s incredible how far, and fast, Kicking Horse’s reputation for powder has spread,” said Gord Vizzutti, Marketing Manager at the resort. “In just four years, word of Kicking Horse’s legendary champagne powder has traveled the globe, mainly owing to happy visitors who share their tales far and wide.”

The CNN.com listing is the second major honor Kicking Horse Mountain Resort has received for its legendary powder this year. In its November, 2003 issue, Skiing magazine named Kicking Horse Mountain Resort number one for powder in North America. Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, Canada’s newest all season mountain resort, is 2.5 hours west of Calgary on the Trans Canada Highway. The 2003/04 season is currently underway with newly opened terrain, on-mountain lodging, and plenty of trademark champagne powder.
