Swiss Skier Shot Dead

Former Swiss skiing champion Corrine Rey-Bellet was shot to death along with her brother Alain in their parents’ house in Les Crosets, Switzerland last Sunday. Meanwhile, their mother was seriously wounded by the still unknown assailant but still managed to call the police for help. She is currently in the hospital to recover from the gunshot wounds she sustained.

Police magistrates are still looking for Rey-Bellet’s husband, Gerold Stadler, whom the former skiing star married in 2002. “We’d really like to get in touch with him,” said police spokesperson Renato Kalbermatten. Other reports, however, say that Stadler was considered a suspect and with his recent divorce with Rey-Bellet as the motive. The couple has a two year-old son, Abtwil who was also at the house in Les Crosets but was unharmed because he was in an upper floor at the time of the murder.

Rey-Bellet, 33, was one of the world’s top skiers when a series of knee injuries forced her to retire in 2003. Some of her finest moments came in 1999 when she won the World Cup Downhill and the Super-G, and in 2003 when she shared the silver medal in the World Championships of that year.
